A successful school leader has been appointed to be the new Headteacher of ACE Schools Plymouth where he will continue to raise the standard of its already excellent education to children and young people not in mainstream schools.
Matt Bindon is currently Deputy Headteacher at Dartmouth Academy, which is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. He has worked in education for more than 13 years after initially training as a PE teacher. ACE Schools Plymouth will be the fifth school that Matt is working in, and his first as Headteacher. Originally from Somerset, Matt comes from a long line of educational professionals. He is married to a fellow teacher, and has two boys aged 10 and seven.
ACE Schools Trust was formed in 2016 as a provider of alternative education. Originally based in Plymouth, it now operates around Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall from 16 different locations, including Courtlands Special School. ACE Schools Plymouth operates the remaining sites. Both are rated Good by Ofsted.
ACE Schools Plymouth caters for pupils aged four to 18, whilst Courtlands caters for primary aged pupils with moderate learning difficulties, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH) and other complex needs. ACE is also due to open a free school, the ACE Tiverton Special School, in September 2019 after its application was approved by the Regional Schools Commissioner and the Department for Education.
Matt will begin working within the school and with the leadership team over the summer.
